How Much Does Your Building Weigh, Mr. Foster?
From directors Carlos Carcas and Norberto López Amado comes a documentary that paints a portrait of the day’s leading architects of the world, with its main focus on British architect Norman Foster. It gives a slightly biographical point of view, starting with Foster’s days as a local architect in Manchester, to his growth and eventual global practice. It discusses the criteria for good architecture, something Foster has seemingly been able to achieve time and time again. The cinematography is handled with such care as to enhance the grandiose feeling of some of Foster’s designs, and dissects why architecture has such a lasting and profound impact on our society and our culture. According to him, “Architecture to me is something that works in terms of all the senses,” and this film definitely aims to articulate those very tactile senses Foster aims to engage with his work.
