60 Minutes: Steve Jobs

Already gravely ill, Jobs wanted an accurate and honest portrayal, one that would surely awaken old scar tissue brought about from his abandonment as a child. In this two-part series, 60 Minutes chronicles the process that went into the book, giving you a terrific idea as to why Jobs was so wildly successful, and at what cost.

The Heart And Sole Of Christian Louboutin

Before the avant-garde conspicuous kicks for men, there were the already-established red-soled stilettos from Christian Louboutin that have made fans a world over. The past two decades of Louboutin’s prolific background was recently cast in a new book. Although the published piece couldn’t reveal more of his background, fans can catch up with a retrospective of Louboutin’s work at the Design Museum and a forthcoming window display at Barneys. In an interview by Style.com, Christian Louboutin talks about his early sketches when he was only 12, his namesake book, the red sole trademark, and how travel affects his designs.

How has your work evolved over the years?
At the beginning, I was doing super-dressy shoes. It was more about dressing than undressing. I started by dressing women’s feet, and now I love to undress them. Some lines are more bare and the design is completely attached to the leg and it’s very minimal, leaving the foot as the object of desire. Nudity and undressing have both become a big element. It’s nice to see the evolution and like everyone else, it’s a work in progress. I have never thought that everything is perfect and it still isn’t.

Do you have a favorite pair that you’ve designed?
It really changes. You cannot really like one pair of shoes more than the others. They remind you of a moment, like a memory of a great love story. I look at another shoe related to a great trip and it reminds me of that. They are all different.

Let’s talk about the beginnings of Christian Louboutin. You started sketching shoes as a boy, right?
There are two sketches in the book from when I was 12. My mom had kept them and when she passed away, my sister had kept them. I basically keep nothing but when I was talking about the book, my sister sent them to me. One of the sketches looks like the Pigalle at one point. It was to get out of boredom at school. I wasn’t very interested in it. It was like a hobby. It was really like a nervous tic. I always sketched the same way: heel on left, point on the right—it was nervous drawing.

And the way the book is divided, into chapters, it actually begins before the company was founded.
At the beginning, we—editor Eric Reinhardt and I—started to look at the shoes; I started talking, he was recording. He came back to me at one point and said, “I think you have enough interesting things to say that it should be a dialogue. We should have this chapter about before you were a designer.” One thing I enjoy is someone who is an aesthete. The way they eat is completely connected to the way they live and the way they design. Eric told me, “In a way, you just don’t know it, but you are an aesthete. There’s no difference between your personal life and the way you decorate your house.” He wanted to show how the two mix.

New Pick-Up!

" Shoe-designer and man extraordinare, Giussepe Zannoti has just released his latest collection for Zanotti and this time-it's all about kicks! And while these sneakers are not your average Adidas or Pumas, their hip-hop style will work wonders in the couture industry where glam infused urban trends have been hitting all the high notes, as of recent. The collection will be available at Giussepe Zanotti boutiques as well as in selected department stores. Not sure how much these will retail for, but judging by the Jimmy Choo sneaker collection, they won't run cheap. We are loving the black studded style. Perfect with black tights and a fitted colored-blouse! "

Steve Jobs: 1955 – 2011

Former chief executive of US technology giant Apple Steve Jobs has passed away. “We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today,” read an official statement by Apple’s board of directors. The company also stated “Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich our lives. The world is immeasurable better because of Steve.” Fellow inventor and business rival Bill Gates paid homage by saying “Jobs profound impact would be felt for many generations to come.” The former Microsoft CEO also added: “For those of us lucky enough to get to work with him, it’s been an insanely great honor. I will miss Steve immensely.”

The company founded by Jobs in the 1970s said that “Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being.” Another statement from the technology empire also added “Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.” The Silicon Valley icon gave the world digital marvels including the MacBook, the iPod and the iPhone amongst others. Sadly, his death came just a day after Apple unveiled its latest iPhone 4s MODEL. He was just 56.

In 2004 Jobs announced that he was suffering from pancreatic cancer and had a liver transplant five years earlier. In January Jobs took medical leave before resigning as CEO in August and handling over his heavy responsibilities to Tim Cook. In his resignation letter Jobs delivered “I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.” As the mastermind and face of Apple, Steve Jobs represented the company’s dedication in transforming technology into desirable and ubiquitous product.

Apple iPhone 4S Video

Amidst mixed reactions to Apple’s keynote announcement of the iPhone 4S, the Cupertino technology giant releases a short video highlighting the phone’s functional improvements and hardware advancements. One of the most notable advances to the iPhone 4S is the introduction of Siri, a state-of-the-art voice-controlled personal assistant. The video offers a closer glimpse into the innovative technology while also touching on the phone’s improved dual-core A5 chip, 8-megapixel camera and optics, and the anticipated iOS 5 software update.

Apple iPhone 4S Siri
Siri will act almost like a personal assistant, reading text messages to you, finding local restaurants and checking weather and travel news. All this is done by just asking simple questions, leaving you free to concentrate on other things such as driving your car. You can read more about Siri over at Apple.

Apple IPhone 4S

After much anticipation and to the disappointment of some, Apple unveiled its latest iPhone release for this year with the newly revamped iPhone 4S. First up was a new A5 dual core processor which boasts 2x the speeds of the iPhone 4 predecessor and 7x the graphics processing thanks to a dual core graphics chip. A strong suit of the iPhone 4S is a new camera featuring an 8MP sensor and lens combo translating to 30% greater sharpness due to a five element design and a maximum aperture of f/2.4. Combined with new photographic internals, better color reproduction and faster captures are all in the cards. The popularity of the iPhone 4 made it one of the most popular cameras platforms for people sharing photos on flickr and this trend will look to continue. Not to be outdone is the video capabilities of the phone will include full 1080p HD recording with image stabilization and noise reduction. One of the big software enhancements is the creation of Siri, a sentient and intelligent personal assistant the can answer any questions you may have.

A pre-order beings October 7 and a release is set for a week later on October 14.

Red Wing Shoes Amsterdam “Red Wing Shoes Factory Visit” Video

Over a year ago, a team from Red Wing Shoes Amsterdam was invited to visit Red Wing Shoes in Minnesota. Having arrived with a purpose of discovering the production and craft, the team documented their visit seen through the video above. The Red Wing Shoes factory is home to a skillful batch of shoemakers, many of whom have stayed with the company for nearly 30 years. On a daily basis, the craftsmen ply their trade on vintage machines that were originally patented back in 1893 and still remain in commission to this day. In addition to the factory, Red Wing Shoes’ S.B. Foot tannery is an integral part of the brand, and one whose lifeline extends beyond that of the Minnesota factory. Acquired by the brand back in the ’80s, the tannery is packed with machines that were sourced from Italy and altered to maximize RW’s propensity to treat and finish leather.

Here it is – The Kanye West Spring 2012 Collection

The first surprise to many was the news, that it would be a women’s collection. As such, we will also leave a judgement of the looks to the pros. All we can say at this point, is that the amount of ‘important’ people from the fashion and entertainment industries that showed up to see the fashion show was rather impressive. From Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld, Terry Richardson, Lindsay Lohan, the Olsen twins, Jessica Michault, Dsquared 2 designers Dean and Dan and the list just goes on. All major fashion magazine editors (Vogue, The Love Magazine, Vogue Homme, etc) were also attending the show. Among the models you could find Chanel Iman and all shoes of the show were designed and produced by Guiseppe Zanotti, which is another impressive move by Kanye. We all know that the high fashion crowd will be a hard one to please, especially from an outsider.

I will not even try to judge Kanye’s attempt at fashion design and will leave you with these images to make up your own mind. I do respect though, that he gave it a shot and cannot wait to see what the next step in Kanye’s fashion career will be.

Take a look at a few pieces of the collection, below.
